Bow Certification
Interested in bow certification? Contact our head coach.
Below is a list of skills necessary to become bow certified.
  1. Know and understand the 'Four Oars' Rule.
  2. Know where to find current water and air temperature.
  3. Know how to address hypo and hyperthermia.
  4. Know the traffic patterns and marks including:
    1. Glass beach pattern
    2. North beach pattern
    3. Basin to inner harbor and back
  5. Know the points of safe harbor for the above patterns.
  6. Bow a single through all of the above traffic patterns including to the inner harbor and back.
  7. Be able to dock a single:
    1. In calm water
    2. In strong winds
  8. Be able to get back in a single during:
    1. Rough water
    2. Calm water
  9. Be able to bow a double including:
    1. Calling and keeping point
    2. Calling and achieving both rate change and control
    3. Bowing the double through all of the above traffic patterns including to the inner harbor and back.
  10. Be able to dock a double:
    1. In calm water
    2. In strong winds
  11. Be able to get back in a double during:
    1. Rough water
    2. Calm water
  12. Be able to rig a sculling boat without damaging the boat.
  13. Know what the basic rigging adjustments do including foot stretcher, track, rigger, and oar adjustments.
