Learn to Row



Step 1:  Intro to Rowing 


On the first Sunday morning of each month, Baltimore Community Rowing offers a 3-hour class to introduce participants to ergs, boat handling, and dock rowing. (Fee: $25)

This class is geared to those 18+ years old and is required before moving onto Learn to Row.

What to Wear
  • Form-fitting shorts or leggings (spandex is best) and a close-fitting top
  • Loose or overly long clothing is not suitable for rowing and can cause injury if it gets caught in the equipment; if you choose to wear loose clothing to the boathouse, please layer your tighter-fitting layers underneath.
  • Locker rooms are also available (please bring your own lock).
  • Socks
  • Sneakers that you don't mind getting wet
  • Sunscreen
  • Layers for cool weather if appropriate

Step 2:  Monthly Learn to Row


Once Intro to Row is complete, rowers may advance to Learn to Row sessions taking place each month (April thru Oct) and includes 14 hours of instruction. (Fee $225)

This series is geared to those 18+ years old and is required before moving onto Novice programs.

Missed Sessions


May be made up during the same month of your Learn to Row class.  For example, if you are registered for the April Weekend Learn to Row class, you may substitute a missed class with an April Weekday Learn to Row class.  Necessary substitutions must be scheduled by emailing coachlar@gmail.com

Step 3:  Novice Open Rowing


Novice Rowing is a program for new rowers who have completed Learn to Row class at BCR.  Novice Open occurs Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings, April 2 - Nov. 9. (Fee: $90/month)

Intro to Rowing and Learn to Row are required prior to registering for this program.
