Private Equipment Storage

Baltimore Community Rowing promotes the sport of rowing for fitness, competition, and recreation for residents of the Baltimore Metro area. 

BCR has rack space available for BCR members who wish to store their private single sculls from the boathouse.  Policies for the rack space wait list, and allocation and retention of rack space are presented in this section, as are requirements for storage of privately owned oars.  These policies are subject to change at any time.

In the event it is determined that the storage of private boats will not be allowed, for any reason, members will be given 30 days to remove their equipment and prorated rack space fees will be returned.  Equipment unauthorized for storage that is left in the boathouse 60 days after owners notified will be disposed of in a manner of the club’s choosing.


Requirements for Allocation and Retention of Private Boat Rack Space

  1. Individuals using boat rack space shall have a current annual membership and be a member in good standing.

  2. Individuals initially applying for private boat storage shall be bow certified.

  3. Individuals who use a boat held in a private boat rack shall be bow certified.

  4. Individuals using boat rack space shall pay their annual membership and annual rack use fee appropriate to their boat class by January 1 of each year. Rack fee includes oar storage for one pair of oars. Additional sets of oars will incur an additional storage fee.

  5. After January 15, a $50 late fee will be imposed on members who have not paid the annual fee. Individuals who have not paid the annual rack use fee by January 31 are subject to having their equipment removed from the boathouse and transported and stored elsewhere at the owner's expense.

  6. Individually owned boats shall be rowed 125 miles [200 km] or greater each calendar year to retain rack space allocation.  Cumulative distance for the boat shall be maintained in iCrew after each outing.  The owner of the boat may designate other bow-certified BCR members in good standing as their surrogate in meeting the distance requirement, but they shall meet other criteria herein.

  7. Individuals renting a BCR-owned rack shall reserve their boat in iCrew and check it in and out in iCrew for each row, noting meters rowed.

  8. Individuals must also complete the boat sign-out log each time they use a boat held in a BCR-owned private boat rack.​

  9. Allocated rack space is not transferable to other individuals.

  10. Individuals allocated boat rack space shall receive a key to the boathouse subject to availability with Baltimore City Recreation & Parks.  Key holders shall maintain the boathouse in a locked condition when using their boats. Key fobs must be returned to BCR immediately upon relinquishment of the rack.

Requirements for Private Oar Storage

  1. Individuals using oar storage space shall have a current annual membership and be a member in good standing.

  2. Individuals using oar storage space shall pay the annual membership and annual use fee by January 1 of each year. After January 15, a $10 late fee will be imposed on members who have not paid the annual fee.

  3. Individuals who have not paid the annual use fee by January 31 are subject to having their equipment removed from the boathouse. Oars occupying rack space for longer than 6 months unpaid will be repurposed for general use within the coached rowing programs.

  4. Allocated oar storage space is not transferable to other individuals.

  5. Individuals who have allocated boat rack space shall have first priority in allocation of oar storage space.

  6. If oar storage space is not adequate to accommodate demand, a waiting list shall be maintained.

 

Waitlist

The Executive Director and rowing administrator shall maintain a list of bow-certified individuals who have requested rack space.  List shall include the following information:

​

  • Relative position in allocation queue

  • Date added to list

  • Applicant’s name

  • Applicant's e-mail address

  • Date of Bow Certification

  • Make, model, and serial number of the shell

  • Name of the shell

Applicants shall make their request for rack space in writing by sending an email to admin@baltimorerowing.org, including the information above.  Applicants shall be responsible for keeping list information current by notifying the administrator of changes.

 

When notified that boat rack space is available, the rower shall respond and pay for their rack within 15 days, or forfeit their position on the waiting list.  If the applicant is not a member in good standing, they must pay the Annual Membership fee in full.

 

The allocated rack space shall be occupied within 45 days of notification or the rack space shall be forfeit.
